Safety above specifications

A 25,000km reduction in servicing intervals saw an operational safety win for the Newborn & Paediatric Emergency Transport Service (NETS) vehicles in March 2025.

When the NETS team approached Bosch Car Service Milperra to service their vehicles, the fleet was only approved to conduct servicing according to the manufacturer specifications being every 40,000km or two years.

These lengthy service intervals posed a risk to the operational safety of the emergency vehicles. The team at NETS noted the following issues in between servicing:

• Brakes grinding metal-to-metal
• Tyres popping
• Engine light appearing

The above issues alone were a risk to the team being able to reach and tend to vulnerable members of the community in a timely manner; or transport them to the appropriate medical facility for further care.

Bryce Spiteri, owner of Bosch Car Service Milperra said: “Being in the automotive industry for more than 20 years, the deterioration of engine fluids and fuel system components were a major concern for me, especially given the vulnerable lives depending on these vehicles to not only show up but safely transport them.”

Alongside, Tom Walsh, Supervisor at NETS, Bryce developed a proposal to increase the service intervals to 15,000 kilometres and have a safety inspection conducted every six months.

This proactive servicing schedule gives Bosch Car Service Milperra the ability to help ensure the safe operation of the NETS vehicles and detect upcoming service items (for example, if brakes are wearing or oil is getting low).
